AG’s Office Rolls Out Special VVIP Wedding Lounge Ahead of Valentine’s Season

Couples planning to formalise their union will now be able to do so in a calmer and more personalised environment after the Office of the Attorney General established a VVIP civil marriage lounge ahead of Valentine’s Day.

In a statement issued on February 7, the OAG said the initiative was part of preparations for the upcoming Valentine’s season.

The office noted that the new lounge is designed to provide couples with an enhanced and more intimate experience while also improving service delivery.

Civil marriage ceremonies are becoming increasingly popular in Kenya, especially in rural areas, as many people view them as a practical and cost-effective alternative to traditional or religious weddings.

To get married civilly, both parties must present key documents, including a National ID or passport, birth certificate, passport-sized photos, and proof of marital status.

Couples wishing to marry civilly must submit an application for a 21-day public notice of marriage through the eCitizen Portal.

The marriage must then take place within 90 days from the date of the notice.

After the 21-day notice period, the couple is required to attend an interview or verification of documents and complete a marriage affidavit before the Registrar.

Alternatively, couples can apply for a special license, which allows for a faster, expedited civil marriage process.
