3 Held After Dormitory Blaze at Solai Boys Senior School

Three students have been arrested over a suspected arson attack on a dormitory at Solai Boys Senior School in Rongai, Nakuru County.

The fire, which occurred on Tuesday, February 3, injured at least 55 students.

Those affected were taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged.

According to local authorities, one student was apprehended after classmates identified him as a possible suspect in the incident.

During questioning, the student reportedly mentioned two other learners who were then arrested as investigations continued.

The fire sparked panic within the school, prompting worried parents to rush to the institution after learning about the incident through social media.

Following the blaze, education officials directed that Form Three and Form Four students be sent home temporarily, as they were the most affected.

School authorities explained that several learners suffered from smoke inhalation while they were attending night preps in class, rather than being inside the dormitory.

The Board of Management resolved to allow the two classes time to recover, with Form Four students expected to return on Monday, February 9, and Form Three students resuming on Tuesday, February 10, accompanied by their parents.

However, some parents expressed frustration with the school, accusing the administration of failing to communicate effectively during the emergency and creating confusion about the welfare of their children and the continuity of learning.
