Kindiki Speaks Out After Mt Kenya MPs Fail to Register for UDA Aspirants’ Forum

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has addressed reports that several elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region failed to register for the UDA Aspirants’ Forum.

In a statement issued on the night of Tuesday, February 3, Kindiki clarified that incumbent UDA governors, senators, MPs, and MCAs are not required to register as aspirants at this stage.

His remarks followed reports that a number of Mt Kenya governors and MPs were absent from the registration list for the forum, which is set to take place on Wednesday at State House in Nairobi.

Among those missing from the list are Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, and Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro were also absent from the list of registered leaders.

Meanwhile, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has recorded a total of 12,353 aspirants who have so far registered for its aspirants’ forum ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the UDA Aspirant Forum Registration Report generated on Monday, February 2, the figures span all 47 counties and cover five elective positions.

The largest number of registrations has been for MCA seats, with 10,230 aspirants accounting for 82.8 percent of the total.

Parliamentary seats follow, with 1,372 individuals seeking UDA tickets to vie for MP positions.

In addition, 323 aspirants have registered for Women Representative slots, while 279 are contesting for Senate seats. 

The gubernatorial race has attracted 149 aspirants so far.
