Fire Ravages Oil Company Along Mombasa Road, Millions Lost

An oil company along Mombasa Road is counting millions in losses following a massive fire on the morning of Tuesday, February 3.

The blaze engulfed part of Golden Africa Ltd, a major oil processing facility on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

Photos and videos shared online revealed the scale of the inferno, showing significant portions of the facility destroyed.

Witnesses reported that by daybreak, thick smoke was still rising from the site, indicating that the fire had not yet been fully contained.

The Machakos County government later confirmed the incident, with Governor Wavinya Ndeti stating that the fire was brought under control through a joint operation involving three agencies.

The county’s Emergency and Disaster Operations Centre responded quickly after receiving a distress call, deploying emergency teams to the scene.

Because the fire occurred inside an oil processing facility, it escalated from a conventional blaze to an oil-based fire, complicating response efforts due to the highly flammable materials involved.

Firefighters from Machakos County were supported by the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade, G4S security teams, and the National Youth Service in controlling the fire.

While the exact cause is still under investigation, preliminary reports indicate that a combination of combustible oils and ongoing industrial operations contributed to the rapid spread of the blaze.
