Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni has revealed that the party intends to use the same strategy that secured Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in 2013 to support Fred Matiang’i’s bid for the presidency in 2027.
Speaking on Monday, February 2, Kioni compared Matiang’i’s candidacy to Kenyatta’s, noting that the stakes are even higher this time.
He explained that while Kenyatta was initially hesitant to run, party supporters encouraged him to vie for the top office.

Kioni suggested that a similar scenario could play out with Matiang’i, with strong backing from the electorate expected to propel him toward succeeding President William Ruto.
Kioni highlighted that the path to victory for their candidate would be relatively smooth, given that he would be contesting against an unpopular incumbent.
He added that Matiang’i’s proven track record and widespread support across the country make him a strong and formidable contender.
Kioni emphasized that there are no favourites within the united opposition, noting that the flagbearer should be chosen based on national support.
He explained that presenting candidates to the public acknowledges that the electorate will ultimately decide the outcome.
Despite rumours of divisions, the opposition has maintained its unity. Matiang’i’s campaign has focused on the primary goal of unseating President Ruto in 2027, making it clear that attempts to predict or cause a split within the coalition are unlikely to succeed.
