Bishop Dominic Kimengich Assigned New Responsibilities in Mombasa

KANU Chairman Gideon Moi has joined church leaders and Catholic faithful nationwide in congratulating Bishop Dominic Kimengich on his appointment as Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mombasa.

Bishop Kimengich, who has been serving as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, was appointed to the new role by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, a move seen as significant both for his personal ministry and for the Catholic Church in Kenya.

Taking to his socials on Wednesday, January 28, Moi acknowledged the importance of the appointment, noting its impact on the leadership of the Church and the faithful across the country.

Reflecting on his years in ministry, he described Bishop Kimengich as a steadfast spiritual leader whose service has deeply shaped the lives of the faithful.

Moi also conveyed congratulations on behalf of his family, expressing pride in Bishop Kimengich’s elevation and offering prayers as he prepares to assume his new responsibilities.

Notably, the developments follow the establishment of the Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet by Pope Leo XIV, which was carved out of the Diocese of Eldoret and placed under the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kisumu.

Pope Leo XIV appointed Rt. Rev. John Kiplimo Lelei, formerly the Auxiliary Bishop of Eldoret, as the first bishop of the new diocese, marking his release from the titular See of Mount Numidia.
