2 Suspects Arrested, Over 900 Stolen Phones in CBD Recovered

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects and recovered more than 900 stolen mobile phones in an intelligence-led operation in Nairobi CBD.

In a statement on Monday, January 26, the DCI said the operation targeted organized criminal networks involved in cross-border theft.

The team from Nairobi Central Sub-County intercepted two packages along Charles Rubia Street, near the busy Buscar bus stage, that were reportedly destined for Uganda.

Upon opening the packages, investigators discovered the large haul of stolen phones.

The DCI said the arrests and recovery are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle inter-country phone theft syndicates operating in the region.

The DCI added that preliminary investigations indicate the suspects are linked to a larger criminal network involved in local phone theft and cross-border trafficking.

Authorities have named the two suspects as Brian Yomasia and Stephen Okwachi Shisia, outlining the actions taken following their arrest.

According to the DCI, the suspects were apprehended on the spot and, along with the recovered phones, were taken to Nairobi Central Police Station for processing ahead of their arraignment.

The agency noted that this recovery follows closely after another recent operation in the city, during which over 150 stolen mobile phones were seized on January 24, 2026.
