The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a investigations into the death of lawyer Chris Mwendwa.
His demise occurred at a hospital in Nairobi’s South C estate where he had gone to seek medical attention.
According to reports, Mwendwa visited the hospital on December 18, 2025, for a minor surgical procedure on his digestive system.
According to his brother, he said he sounded well before heading to the facility and had informed them that he was rushing to the hospital for the procedure.
Later on, the family received a call from the hospital informing them that Mwendwa had been admitted and that they needed to speak to him.
At 12:17pm, the hospital contacted the brother again, urging him to go to the facility immediately, stating that the procedure had not gone well.
Later part of the afternoon, the family was informed that Mwendwa has succumbed but he hospital officials were hesitant to provide details of the procedures that had been carried out on the deceased.
According to the DCI investigations, the doctor who had attended to Mwendwa indicated that after administering 22 millilitres of propofol, Mwendwa’s blood pressure dropped, his heart rate increased, and he developed breathing difficulties, leading to reduced oxygen supply to the blood.
An autopsy later conducted by a government pathologist reportedly indicated that Mwendwa may have been administered an overdose of propofol during the operation.
So far, the hospital has declined to issue a detailed medical report only confirming that Mwendwa died while seeking medical attention.
The DCI investigations are still ongoing.
