Suspected Drug Peddlers Arrested, Heroin Worth Ksh4 Million Recovered

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered heroin valued at approximately Ksh4 million in Utange, Mombasa County.

In a statement issued on Friday, January 23, the DCI said the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation conducted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), with support from Kiembeni Police Station officers.

The officers raided a residential house concealed behind a high perimeter wall in the Barawa area of Kisauni Sub-County, where they arrested Tawaida Ali Said and Shamim Abubakar and seized the narcotics, effectively disrupting the alleged drug trafficking operation.

During the search, officers recovered several neatly packaged sachets of heroin concealed in two bedrooms within the house.

A further sweep of the compound led to the discovery of another package of heroin buried in a corner of the premises, apparently hidden in an attempt to avoid detection by law enforcement.

By the end of the operation, detectives had seized 1,346 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of Ksh4.09 million, along with a digital weighing scale and a drying machine, indicating an organized drug trafficking operation.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations are finalized ahead of their arraignment.
