Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has launched the 2026 edition of the Masomo Bora programme, aimed at supporting students in all 65 day secondary schools across the constituency.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, Nyoro announced that beginning this term, school fees for all day secondary school learners, including those in senior secondary schools, will be capped at Ksh500 per term.
He further revealed that the programme will also provide daily meals for students. Under the feeding plan, learners will receive lunch every school day, including Saturdays, with githeri served three days a week and rice on the remaining three days.

Students will also be given uji during tea breaks, while chapati will be served for lunch on the last Friday of every month.
To strengthen the programme, Nyoro announced that the Kiharu NG-CDF will allocate an additional Ksh10 million for revision materials this financial year, adding to the Ksh20 million that has already been disbursed in previous years.
He further revealed that more than Ksh50 million will be directed towards improving school infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on the construction and equipping of laboratories to enhance learning outcomes.
In a move to boost enrolment in newly established schools and institutions with low student numbers, Nyoro said free uniforms will be provided to all students joining Grade 10 in the 20 identified schools.
Additionally, to support co-curricular activities, each of the 65 schools will receive an extra Ksh50,000 to supplement their activity funds.
A further Ksh900,000 has been set aside for prize-giving ceremonies, which will be shared equally between Murang’a East and Kahuro sub-counties.
Nyoro also announced incentives for teachers and school heads, including fully sponsored trips to Mombasa for top-performing teachers and overseas travel to Dubai or Malaysia for principals from the best and most improved schools.
He added that remedial fees will be capped at Ksh1,000 per term, with no extra registration charges allowed.
The programme will also cover school bus maintenance costs and will be inclusive of all students enrolled in Kiharu day secondary schools, regardless of their county of origin.
