Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has dismissed Eliud Owalo’s 2027 presidential bid, suggesting that his move is intended to challenge the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the Nyanza region.
Odhiambo said Owalo is likely positioning himself as a leader of a smaller party that could compete against ODM.
She further indicated that he may also be considering contesting for other elective positions in Nyanza, including the Siaya gubernatorial seat or the Rarieda parliamentary seat.

Eliud Owalo on Sunday announced his intention to run for President in next year’s general election.
The declaration came during a church service in Siaya County, where he said he had consulted widely before deciding to vie for the country’s top seat.
Following the announcement, Owalo resigned from his role as Deputy Chief of Staff for Delivery and Government Efficiency, a position he had held since August 2024 after being appointed by President William Ruto.
He previously served as Cabinet Secretary for ICT but was dismissed in July 2024 when the President dissolved the entire Cabinet.
