Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has appointed Maurice Ogeta, a longtime bodyguard to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as Advisor on Security Affairs within the county government.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 8, Governor Nassir announced the appointment alongside several other senior positions in his executive office, following the formal establishment of the roles by the Mombasa County Public Service Board.
The governor explained that Ogeta’s appointment was based on his extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge gained at local, regional, and international levels.

He noted that Ogeta’s many years of service, including his role working closely with the late Raila Odinga, uniquely qualified him for the security advisory position.
Nassir emphasized that the move was in line with legal provisions governing public service appointments and aimed at strengthening security coordination within the county administration.
Ogeta’s appointment follows the death of his longtime principal, Raila Odinga, who passed away in India in October 2025.
He served as Raila’s chief bodyguard for over two decades, earning recognition for his loyalty and professionalism in Kenya’s political security circles.
With more than 25 years of experience, Ogeta was a constant presence at Raila’s public and private engagements.
He was also among the close aides present in India shortly before the former Prime Minister’s death.
Ogeta was visibly emotional during the repatriation and burial ceremonies, reflecting the close bond he shared with Raila throughout his years of service.
