Junet Mohamed Calls for Bigger ODM Share in Government

The National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed has called for a larger share of government positions for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Speaking during an ODM condolence visit to the home of the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo on December 21, Junet urged the President to clearly outline the positions that would be allocated to ODM before any potential coalition agreement ahead of the next polls.

He said the party would present firm demands during coalition negotiations, dismissing concerns from some ODM members who had cautioned against putting undue pressure on President William Ruto.

Junet said that despite the President allocating ODM several Cabinet positions under the broad-based arrangement and rolling out development projects in ODM strongholds, the party believes it deserves more.

He argued that ODM remains the country’s largest political party and will deliver significant votes to the President, a position he used to justify calls for increased government representation and additional development initiatives.

However, Junet maintained that ODM would not join the opposition and would continue supporting the broad-based government, while insisting that the President must meet the party’s demands.

His remarks come days after Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga similarly called for more Cabinet slots and a stronger stake for ODM in a future Ruto administration.
