KNEC Refutes Claims of Unpaid KCSE Examiners

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has denied reports that Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examiners left marking centres without receiving their allowances.

In a statement on Sunday, December 14, the council clarified that all examiners who had completed the marking exercise and left the centres had been fully paid.

KNEC also provided a list of KCSE papers for which examiners have already received their coordination fees, including Physics Paper 2, Biology Paper 2, Agriculture Paper 1, Chemistry Paper 3, Biology Paper 1, Agriculture Paper 2, Computer Studies Paper 2, and Biology Paper 3.

KNEC has assured that all examiners still engaged in the marking process will receive their coordination allowances before leaving the marking centres.

The clarification follows protests by English Paper 2 examiners at Mary Hill Girls High School on Sunday, who staged a demonstration over unpaid coordination fees.

The protest brought marking at the centre to a halt, with the examiners vowing not to resume work until payments are made. Each KCSE examiner is entitled to Ksh5,000 in coordination allowances.

The 2025 KCSE exams were conducted by the Ministry of Education from October 21 to November 21, with a total of 996,078 candidates participating.

The results are expected to be released in January 2026.
