Jalang’o Leads Lang’ata Residents in Protest Against Planned Evictions

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, widely known as Jalang’o, on Thursday, December 11, led Lang’ata residents in a protest against planned evictions tied to the Affordable Housing Project.

He noted that the demonstration sought to compel the government to engage the affected community before any relocation begins.

According to the MP, the meeting with Ministry of Housing officials resulted in a commitment to suspend the evictions until all stakeholders are involved and a clear, transparent relocation process is established.

Notably, in Kakamega County, tensions remain high after 63 people were arrested following clashes over disputed gold mining operations.

The death toll from the Isulu, Ikolomani violence has risen to four, with several others — including two police officers — still hospitalized with gunshot injuries.

Authorities have detained Idaho Central MCA Akidias Liyai and nominated MCA Anne Muluwale, accusing them of financing the unrest.

Families have protested outside Kakamega Central Police Station, alleging harassment during night raids.

The clashes were sparked by resistance to a British-based firm’s proposed mining project, which could require 337 acres of private land and displace about 800 families.
