Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has secured his position after the Senate on Wednesday, December 3, halted his impeachment proceedings.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced the decision, noting that it stemmed from a preliminary objection filed by Nyaribo.
The governor argued that the Nyamira County Assembly failed to meet the constitutional threshold required to lawfully approve his removal from office.

Kingi said the Senate agreed with Nyaribo’s argument, effectively bringing the impeachment process to an end.
Following the ruling, the Senate terminated the matter, confirming that Nyaribo will continue serving as the county’s chief executive.
Earlier Wednesday, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo rejected all allegations as the Senate began hearings on his proposed impeachment.
Senate Deputy Clerk Mohamed Ali read out charges, which Nyaribo dismissed in full. The motion accused him of illegal appointments, abuse of office, and neglect of constitutional duties.
Allegations included backing the unconstitutional Bunge Mashinani initiative, approving the Nyamira County Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2024 without legal authority, and unlawfully appointing Dr. Peris Nyaboke Oroko to the County Executive Committee.
He was also accused of making improper appointments to municipal boards, mismanaging the CPSB Selection Panel, and failing to appoint CPSB leadership.
Other claims included failing to deliver the State of the County Address, disobeying court directives on appointments, overseeing recruitment without budget approval, irregular hiring of senior HR officers, benefiting from questionable salary arrears, and enabling a payroll fraud syndicate.
Nyaribo was further accused of dual appointments outside legal frameworks, encroaching on the roles of the Auditor-General and CPSB, and unlawfully suspending the CPSB Secretary.
