Eng. Michael Thoya Kingi Takes Oath as New SRC Commissioner

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi’s brother, Eng. Michael Thoya Kingi, has officially taken office as a Commissioner of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on Monday, December 1, and was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Michael, a former Magarini MP, was appointed to the SRC by President William Ruto, with the appointment formalised through a gazette notice.

He will serve on the Commission for a six-year term.

Michael holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Michael’s career began in engineering, where he worked in project supervision before moving into public service as a Water Officer at the Coast Development Authority. 

He later held senior roles at Kilifi Mariakani Water and Sewerage Company and served as Managing Director of Malindi Water and Sewerage Company from 2015 to 2017.

He entered politics in 2017, becoming the MP for Magarini Constituency under the ODM ticket, and served on key parliamentary committees, including Public Accounts and Implementation.
