Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has announced that she will not be defending her seat in the 2027 elections and has thrown her support behind nominated Senator Karen Nyamu as her preferred successor.
Speaking during an event on Wednesday, November 19, Passaris explained that she intends to step away from the affirmative action position after serving two terms, saying it is time for her to pursue a different role.
Passaris went on to direct her attention to Nyamu, encouraging her to confidently state her political plans and affirming her backing for her candidature.

This comes a few months after Passaris defended her choice to support and work with President William Ruto.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 29, she explained that her leadership is driven by development priorities rather than personal conflicts.
She also took aim at politicians positioning themselves for her seat, urging them to present genuine plans instead of attacking her record.
Passaris emphasised that she would not be drawn into unnecessary rivalries, adding that her alignment with President Ruto is rooted in a commitment to progress.
She further noted that those seeking to succeed her should demonstrate what they can offer Kenyans instead of undermining her achievements, stressing that true leadership is about uplifting others rather than tearing them down.
