Man Linked to Headteacher’s Kidnapping Arrested in Kirinyaga

Detectives in Kirinyaga East Sub-County have arrested the prime suspect linked to the kidnapping of Gatuto Primary School Headteacher, Joshua Kerai. 

The incident occurred on November 4, 2025, in Kagumo, Kirinyaga County.

The suspect, identified as Patrick Gacoki Muembe, is said to have attacked the teacher alongside two accomplices who are still at large.

They allegedly bundled the unsuspecting headteacher into a maroon Toyota Ractis, registration number KCP 816F, and drove him around while subjecting him to a terrifying ordeal.

According to authorities, the victim was later found abandoned and in distress inside the same vehicle at Sahara Petrol Station in Kutus Town. 

He was rescued by a good Samaritan who rushed him to Kerugoya Catholic Hospital, where he received medical attention.

After the chilling incident, detectives acted swiftly, following forensic evidence and intelligence leads. 

Their search led them to Muembe’s hideout in Kutus, where he was apprehended after days of careful pursuit.

Investigations have revealed that Muembe is a serial offender connected to multiple serious crimes, including motor vehicle theft, stock theft, robberies, and shop break-ins across the region. 

He is currently in police custody as detectives continue efforts to track down his two accomplices, who remain at large.
