Murang’a Senator Reveals Fallout Between Kahiga and Gachagua

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has recently revealed that Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga no longer works with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on Thursday, October 23, the senator noted that Kahiga and former Nyeri town MP Ngujiri Wambugu worked with Gachagua for a while after he was impeached.

He went on to allege that the two leaders are currently aligned with the government.

“We must ask some leaders in ODM; they must not associate the remarks of Kahiga with Rigathi Gachagua. Two leaders from Nyeri were working with Gachagua when he was impeached, but are no longer working with him; they are working with the government. One of them is Mutahi Kahiga, and the other is Ngujiri Wambugu. Any statement from those two should not be associated with Gachagua,” said Nyutu.

The senator’s statement comes in the wake of controversial remarks by Governor Kahiga, who seemed to celebrate the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

During a funeral in Nyeri County on Tuesday, Kahiga claimed that Raila’s death was a blessing in disguise for the Mt Kenya region.

Notably, Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga on Wednesday claimed that the Governor made the remarks about Raila on his behalf.

Wanga also said the ODM party will not associate with Gachagua’s acquaintances following Governor Kahiga’s remarks.

Kahiga later apologized for his remarks, clarifying that they were not meant to celebrate the death of the former Prime Minister.

The Nyeri County boss explained that his comments reflected his personal views and should not be linked to his community, political affiliation, or the Council of Governors (CoG).

He has since stepped down from his position as the CoG Vice Chairperson.
