Natembeya Takes Issue with Ruto over Chief of the Golden Heart Award to Late Raila

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has recently criticized President Ruto over the award of the Chief of the Golden Heart (C.G.H.) to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking on October 20, Natembeya described the gesture as untimely, pointing out the culture of hypocrisy when it comes to recognizing achievements.

“Let’s not wait for people to die before we start praising and appreciating them. We are a pretentious and hypocritical nation. What stopped the President from awarding Raila the C.G.H. while he was still alive? Of what value is it now? He won’t wear it around his neck,” he said.

The county boss moreover questioned why recognition for Raila’s contributions seemed to come only after his passing.

During the Mashujaa Day celebrations, President William Ruto conferred the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (C.G.H.) on the late Raila Odinga.

In a gazette notice, the President posthumously honoured the former Prime Minister with the country’s highest civilian award in recognition of his outstanding service and contribution to the nation.

The notice highlighted Raila’s lifelong commitment to justice, democracy, and national unity as the key reasons for the historic honour.

The late former Prime Minister passed away on the morning of Wednesday, October 15, after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk in Kerala, India.

He was pronounced dead at 9:52 a.m. Indian time.
