UK Advises Vigilance for Citizens in Kenya During National Mourning Period

British nationals have been warned against visiting certain places in Kenya following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in India.

The late former Prime Minister passed away on Wednesday, October 15 in India.

The UK government, through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), issued an advisory warning its citizens against vising certain areas, citing kidnapping as one of the major risks.

“Following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Kenya is observing 7 days of national mourning from 15 October. Roads to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi have sometimes been blocked by demonstrations, and the airport was temporarily closed due to a security situation following the arrival of the body of Raila Odinga on 16 October. It has since reopened,” the statement read.

They also cautioned further disruption in Nairobi and Kisumu during the national mourning.
