TUK Lecturer Murdered Amid Homa Bay Land Feud

Professor Thomas Onyango Mboya, a lecturer at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), was killed in Mbita, Homa Bay County, following a land dispute.

He was reportedly attacked and hacked to death by two young men after a quarrel over boundaries.

The dispute is said to have started when some of his neighbours allegedly encroached on his land in Kakrigu village.

Seeking a resolution, the don reached out to the area chief and a land surveyor to help establish the correct boundaries.

However, before the officials could arrive, Professor Mboya and his father went to the contested piece of land, where the fatal confrontation took place.

When they arrived at the disputed land, two young men armed with pangas allegedly descended on Professor Mboya and his father.

The lecturer suffered deep head injuries and died instantly, while his father sustained injuries during the attack.

According to Mbita Deputy Sub-County Commissioner Peter Mutiso, the assailants fled immediately after committing the crime.

Police have since launched investigations and a manhunt for the suspects. Mboya’s body was taken to MED 25 Kirindo mortuary in Homa Bay for preservation, as his injured father was rushed to Mbita Sub-County Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo condemned the killing, describing it as a tragic loss and urging security agencies to ensure that those behind the death of the TUK don are held accountable.
