Natembeya Reveals United Opposition Has Not Settled on 2027 Candidate

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has recently stated that no agreement has been reached by the United Opposition on who will be the flag bearer in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview, the county boss noted that the process will involve evaluating leaders on the basis of their ability to rally public support and mobilize resources.

“We must agree as the opposition, and no one should beat his chest claiming that he is the flag bearer, and I’m saying this because they are just cold facts. For us to choose a flag bearer, we will start by checking the number of people you will have brought to us and the resources you have, which will be used to determine,” he said.

This comes a month after the Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K) accused Natembeya of orchestrating a hostile takeover of the party’s leadership.

In a statement on Friday, August 1, the PG led by Cherangany MP Patrick Simiyu Barasa raised concern over what it termed a coordinated attempt by Governor Natembeya and external forces to wrest control of the party from its current leadership under Eugene Wamalwa.

The group pointed out that while Natembeya has publicly positioned himself as a defender of the people of Western Kenya, his recent actions appear to contradict those principles.

The PG reaffirmed their support for Wamalwa and cautioned all party members against internal sabotage.
