Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, a vendor shot during the June 17, 2025, demonstrations, has passed away.
The hawker had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Kenyatta National Hospital almost two weeks after he was shoot.
While speaking to the press confirming his death, his family claimed that no government institution had come forward to help clear the bill of Ksh3.5 million.
“All I can say is that we have a tough task ahead, as getting him out of there (the mortuary) is hard because we do not have money. We are seeking help from Kenyans”, Kariuki’s father said.
“I want justice for my son because my son did not do anything wrong. I knew that in the future, he was my only hope. He was my only son as the rest are daughter”, he added.
This comes a day after the family said he had been declared brain dead.
The hawker was shot at close range in the head and left bleeding on the ground.
Fellow protestors rushed him to the hospital, and the bullet was retrieved from his skull hour later.
