Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed that President William Ruto’s recent remarks on abductions were taken out of context.
The Head of State had earlier in the week stated that all Kenyans abducted during the Gen Z protests had been returned to their families, comments that many Kenyans saw as an admission from the government.
However, while speaking to the media on Wednesday, May 14, Murkomen expressed that Ruto’s remarks were not accurately understood by Kenyans.

Murkomen noted that Ruto’s remarks were not an admission that the government was behind the abductions.
According to Murkomen, the President was only trying to explain that he had given clear policy directives on the need to end the abductions.
“Many people misunderstood the President, and I am seeing that it has been taken out of context when he said that we have stopped abductions and that people have been returned to their homes. The fact that we have said that we have stopped abductions…it does not mean that we were the ones doing it.”
Speaking while receiving Finland’s President, Ruto noted that all those who were abducted during the Gen Z protest were returned, a move that saw Kenyans raise concerns over the statement.
