Gachagua Condemns Ang’ata Barikoi Killings

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condemned and promised to unveil leaders behind the Monday clashes in Ang’ata Barikoi, Narok County.

Taking to his socials on Monday evening, the former DP attributed the killings in Barikoi to what he labelled as an insatiable appetite by a section of leaders who were out to grab parcels of land belonging to Kenyans.

According to Gachagua, the 6,000-acre piece of land at the centre of controversy rightfully belonged to Kenyans who occupied it for several decades.

“My heart goes out to the families of the five innocent people who have been shot dead and several who have been injured in Ang’ata Barikoi over the 6,000-acre piece of land which rightfully belongs to the citizens who have occupied the land for several decades,” Gachagua commented.

Gachagua also demanded to know the leaders behind the shoot-to-kill order by the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) police officers.

He moreover called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the gruesome murders and injuries.

He further disclosed that he was gathering evidence and information on the matter, and he would soon name and shame those responsible for the heinous act.

“Who deployed GSU and RDU officers to exercise unlawful, lethal, and brutal police force on innocent Kenyans in Ang’ata? This forceful displacement of population is a crime against humanity, and whoever is culpable must face crimes against humanity. I am gathering evidence and information on this matter, and we will name and shame those responsible for this heinous act. We can not afford, as a nation, to live in dictatorship and brutality when the world is on a trajectory to prosperity and the greatness of its citizens.”

At least five people were killed on Monday afternoon following violent clashes with police over a land dispute in Ang’ata Barikoi in Narok County.

The confrontation is said to have erupted when locals staged protests against government officials who had arrived to demarcate the piece of land in question.

However, tensions escalated when residents blocked roads and clashed with security forces, forcing the police to respond with force, leading to the fatalities.
