The High Court has upheld Cleophas Malala’s removal as the secretary-general of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a ruling by Justice Bahati Mwamuye on Monday, April 28, 2025, he revoked the decision of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) that had temporarily reinstated Malala.
“The first respondent’s appeal before the PPDT is hereby terminated and shall not proceed before the tribunal. Any orders previously issued in favour of the respondent are hereby vacated”, the court ruled.

The High Court also dismissed the entire proceedings before the PPDT, effectively closing the door on any attempt to challenge his ouster through that forum.
The decision upholds the appointment of Hassan Omar as the legitimate UDA Secretary-General, formalising the party’s recent leadership changes.
Malalal had earlier argued that the move was unlawful and politically motivated.
The court’s decision now makes Malala’s political future uncertain.
