The BBC have alleged that the shooters during the Gen Z protests could have come from the Kenya Defence Forces, specifically the Kenya Army.
The June 2024 Anti-Finance Bill protests, which escalated at the parliamentary buildings as more than a hundred youths had marched to the building, left several youths losing their lives while others were allegedly abducted.
Their latest investigation, a 37-minute-long documentary, is based on the killing of Gen Z during the protests, where they were killed, whereas some were arrested.
In the documentary, the BBC World Service team analysed videos and photos taken by protesters and journalists on the day of the incident.

Many youths had only one goal: to reach the Kenyan parliament and stop the passing of the Finance Bill 2024.
But unfortunately, not many of them reached their goals, as some died in the process of trying to access the National Assembly.
Among the documentary findings was that one of the shooters had a unique dress code, unlike the plain clothes police officers at the scene raising doubts whether he belonged to the police unit.
“In the video of the officer shooting, ‘uaa!’, the shooter’s back was to the camera. But the BBC compared his body armour, riot shield and headgear with that of every police officer at the scene”, the BBC world service team stated.
While identifying the police officer, BCC found out that the officer belonged to the Kenyan army.
