Fred Matiang’i Returns to Kenya After Hiding Abroad

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has jetted back into the country from the United States , where he has been working with the World Bank.

The former CS arrived in the country on Thursday, April 17 night via the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

He was received by several leaders, including Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, and UDA Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba.

Matiang’i’s return comes months after the Jubilee Party endorsed him to vie for the presidency in the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a meeting with local Jubilee leaders in Narok County, Kioni announced that the Uhuru Kenyatta-led party has decided that Matiang’i will challenge President Ruto in the 2027 polls.

Kioni also noted that the party wanted a candidate from a minority community to lead the nation.

Notably, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at working with Matiang’i to form a united political front ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on April 15, Gachagua disclosed that talks are underway to form a new alliance with like-minded leaders.
