Eyewitnesses claimed that the car was moving at high speed, and the driver is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol when he hit the students.

Videos and images circulating on social media platforms showed the vehicle severely damaged with a cracked windscreen, damaged side mirrors and deflated tyres.

The accident occurred just a few hours after more than ten students from Ober Boys Boarding got involved in an accident along the Sondu-Katito highway.

The accident occurred after a 14-seater matatu that was ferrying pupils towards Kisumu city lost control and rammed into a stalled truck carrying sugarcane.

A police report revealed that four people, including three pupils, succumbed on the spot, while those injured were rushed to the Nyabondo Mission Hospital for treatment.
