FC Talanta Out of Relegation as Mathare Comeback to Haunt Mara

FC Talanta climbed out of the relegation zone with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium. Bernard Odhiambo and Emmanuel Osoro scored Talanta’s goals in the 2nd and 38th minutes of the match.

This win propelled Talanta to 14th place in the standings, with 26 points, while Sofapaka, known as Batoto ba Mungu, remains in 8th place with 33 points after 25 league matches.

In the second match at the same venue, Mathare United came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Mara Sugar.

Brian Ochieng gave Mara an early lead just one minute into the game, heading home from close range following a misjudgment by goalkeeper Michael Wanyika.

However, Mathare fought back and equalized through an own goal by Woodvine Okoth. Brian Ouru then completed the comeback with a decisive strike.

Ochieng’s opener was the result of his well-timed positioning to meet a delivery from Mike Isabwa inside the box, converting effortlessly due to Wanyika’s misjudgment of the cross.

Mathare’s persistence paid off in the 52nd minute when fullback Woodvine Okoth accidentally turned Musa Masika’s cross into his own net, giving the Slum Boys an equalizer.

The breakthrough came in the 66th minute when Ouru put Mathare ahead with his second goal. After receiving a pass from Masika, Ouru attempted to deliver into the penalty area, but his shot deflected off defender Drona Openda and looped into the top corner, securing the comeback victory.

This win lifted John Kamau’s side three places in the table to 10th, with 30 points, while Mara Sugar dropped to 11th in the standings.
