Serbia has condemned Kenya’s decision to recognize Kosovo as an independent country.
Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country stated that the action constitutes a blatant violation of international law and directly breaches United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Serbia strongly condemns the decision of the Republic of Kenya to recognize the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called ‘Kosovo’ the statement read.
Serbia emphasized that the decision undermines efforts to foster constructive dialogue, regional stability and respect for the international legal order.

The country expressed regret over how the move sets a troubling precedent in the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Kenya, citing reference to the 2010 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice as justification for the decision is unfounded.
Serbia went ahead and cautioned that it would take necessary diplomatic and political measures in response to the matter.
“The republic of Kenya remains firmly committed to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity through all available diplomatic and legal means” the statement added.
Kenya recognized Kosovo’s independence on Wednesday, 26, 2025, making it the first country to do so after nearly five years of stalled efforts for further international recognition.
The move was confirmed by Albanian President Barijam Begaj following a meeting between the Head of State and Kosovo’s Special Envoy Behgjet Pacolli.
“Pleased that Kenya has recognised the State of Kosovo today. I extend my gratitude to my friend (President) William Ruto for the decision, warmly welcomed by Allbainians” the Head of the Republic wrote.
The move was also confirmed by the State Department for Foreign Affairs in Kenya as away to strengthen relations with countries in the Balkans.
