Five Dead After Kenyan Cargo Plane Crashes in Somalia

Five crew members were confirmed dead in a Kenyan cargo aircraft crash in Mogadishu, Somalia.

According to reports, the cargo plane was returning from Dhobley town in the lower Juba region after delivering supplies to the African Union forces when it crashed at least 24 kilometres southwest of Mogadishu on Saturday evening at around 5:30 pm.

Dhobley is the headquarters of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia troops from Kenya.

The incident was confirmed by the Somalia Civil Aviation Authority who stated that all the five people on board lost their lives.

“The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) confirms a tragic aircraft crash 24km southwest of Mogadishu. The DHC-5D Buffalo (5Y-RBA), operated by Trident Aviation Ltd, crashed at 14:43Z while en route from Dhobley to Aden Adde Intl Airport. All five people on board lost their lives” the SCCA stated.

More detailed reports indicated that the aircraft is registered in Kenya and owned by Trident Aviation Limited.

The families of the deceased have since been informed about the tragedy while the cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
