England secured a 2-0 victory over Albania at Wembley, marking a successful debut for Thomas Tuchel as the manager of the Three Lions. Myles Lewis-Skelly, who made his first England start, opened the scoring as well as a Man of the Match performance establishing the beginning of the Tuchel era.
After the match, Tuchel praised Lewis-Skelly’s “natural confidence.” The 18-year-old defender scored just 20 minutes into his debut, showcasing his talent. Harry Kane later added a second goal, solidifying the win.
In his post-match comments, Tuchel highlighted the teenager’s bravery, which has contributed to his rapid progress early in his career.
“He has such an open character,” Tuchel said. “He was amazing in camp—full of confidence and humor. You see the way he carries himself both on and off the pitch. He plays with natural confidence, displaying courage and skill. He was decisive and opened the game for us.”
Tuchel also noted Lewis-Skelly’s versatility during the match, emphasizing his tactical significance.
“In training, his quality is evident—his first touch, body movement, and passing show a high understanding of the game. He is very versatile and can contribute in many ways. Today, we opted for a more conventional approach, given the variety of players representing different clubs.”
