Former Governor Kiraitu Murungi Admits Plotting Kawira Mwangaza’s Impeachment

Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has admitted to being part of a group of Meru leaders that planned the impeachment of former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

According to Murungi, Mwangaza was fighting other Meru leaders including Members of the County Assembly and Members of Parliament.

“She was at war with all MPs, MCAs, and even those of us who were there before her, she went around everywhere insulting and embarrassing us. She was very arrogant. Now that she is gone, that’s why you see happiness in Meru,” said Murungi.

He moreover noted that Mwangaza pledged to uplift the people of Meru however she did not fulfil the promise in the two years she was the county boss.

“We realized that even if she is given ten years, Meru would continue to lag behind and remain stuck in the mud. As concerned Meru leaders, we saw it fit to help our people get out of this political mess. So, we united with other leaders, did what we could, and now she is at home,” Murungi added.

Murungi’s confession came after Mwangaza claimed that she was removed from office because she refused to be politically manipulated.

Mwangaza said that her impeachment was orchestrated by national government officials and her political competitors.

On Friday, March 14, High Court Judge Justice Bahati Mwamuye upheld the Senate’s decision to impeach Mwangaza, stating that her petition to block her removal from office did not meet the required threshold to overturn the impeachment.

After the ruling, Isaac Mutuma was sworn in as the new Meru Governor in an event held at Mwendantu Grounds in Meru County.
