President Ruto Pledges to Provide 1 million Chapati-Making Machine For Nairobi’s Growth

President William Ruto has promised Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja a chapati-making machine to support Nairobi’s Dishi na County School program.

Speaking at St.Teresa Girls Secondary School in Mathare on Tuesday, March 11 2025, President Ruto, accompanied by Governor Sakaja, disclosed plans to supply a high-capacity machine which can produce up to one million chapatis daily.

While highlighting the success of the initiative, which now provides meals to over 300,000 children in public schools across Nairobi, Sakaja stated that he would ask the President to help with a chapati-making machine.

“I am feeding 300,000 children in Nairobi, now I will need to make one million chapatis. I will ask the president to help me with a chapati-making machine,” the Governor said.

President Ruto, while addressing the issue, promised to honor Sakaja’s request.

“Governor Sakaja has requested that chapatis be included in the Dishi na County program. He wants a machine capable of making one million chapatis per day, and I have a greed to his request,” the Head of State said.

The Dishi na County program, which was launched on June 20, 2023, aims to provide meals to public primary schools and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) students.
