The United States Supreme Court has declined Trump’s request to freeze approximately Ksh 250 billion in foreign aid.
In a divided decision (5-4), the Supreme Court upheld an order by Judge Amir Ali who had instructed the administration to disburse the funds by February 26 2025.
This will enable a mandatory release of funds to contractors and grant recipients with USAID and the State Department.
Humanitarian projects worldwide will now continue.

However, the court did not specify when the funds should be released but instead referred the matter back to the lower courts for clarification.
The foreign aid controversy began when the US 47th President, Donald Trump, issued a 90-day freeze on all foreign aid upon being sworn in as the Head of State on January 20, 2025.
The decision disrupted numerous USAID operations globally, such as the delivery of essential medical aid.
According to the Humanitarian organisations, the freeze endangered millions that are reliant on US assistance.
Kenya, being one of them, has led to protests at the Kakuma refugee camp with over 250,000 people in response to food funding shortage.
The protests led to clashes between refugees and police, leaving injuries from both sides.
