President Ruto Denies Claims of Govt Spending KSh 104B on SHA System

President William Ruto has dismissed the Auditor General’s report on Sh104 billion expenditure on the SHA system.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of Malava MP Malulu Injendi, Ruto noted that the national government did not spend a cent in purchasing the system managing SHA.

According to him, the system developer will be paid via the User Fees collected from healthcare facilities.

The Head of State went on to claim that those opposing the SHA system are brokers who benefitted from the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Ruto moreover asserted that the government would proceed with its decision to have a consortium of technology companies handle all the claims made to SHA.

He noted that the decision will enable the government to protect citizen contributions made to SHA.

The President’s clarification comes hours after Auditor General Nancy Gathungu revealed that the state neither owns nor controls the system despite heavy investment.

Gathungu’s report moreover disclosed that the private individuals controlling the SHA system pocket 2.5% of the contributions.
