NCIC Cautions Gachagua Against Hatred After Warning Ruto Not to Visit Mt. Kenya

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has issued a warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his recent remarks about President William Ruto.

In a letter dated February 27 2025, the NCIC Commission Chairman cautioned Gachagua against making utterances that could undermine the harmonious and peaceful coexistence of different ethnic communities within Kenya.

Speaking on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at AIPCA Kiongo Church Igembe North in Meru County, the former DP alleged that there was a scheme to oust Chief Justice Marth Koome from office.

“Your allegation that here is a scheme hatched by President to remove the Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome from office because of her ethnicity is misleading and meant to promote negative ethnicity and likely to incite feelings of animosity among Kenyan’s thus undermining the peaceful co-existence”, the commission stated.

Gachagua further warned President Ruto against visiting Meru County if CJ Koome was removed from office.

The commission cited the warning as a direct violation of the President’s constitutional right as the symbol of unity to visit any part of the country to discharge his official duties as the duly elected President of the country.

The commission, therefore, told Gachagua to be more cautious with his choice of words as freedom of speech is guaranteed by the Kenyan constitution.
