Manchester United were eliminated from the FA Cup after losing to Fulham (3-4) in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw after both regulation time and extra time at Old Trafford.
The match saw the teams evenly matched after 120 minutes of play. Fulham’s Calvin Bassey opened the scoring just before halftime, heading in from a corner kick, while Bruno Fernandes equalized for United with a well-placed shot into the far corner in the 71st minute.
Fulham’s goalkeeper, Bernad Leno, emerged as the hero of the evening, saving two penalty kicks from Victor Lindelöf and Joshua Zirkzee. The match went to penalties after both teams scored their initial shots flawlessly.
However, Lindelöf faltered first, allowing Leno to make the save. Antonee Robinson then converted his penalty, putting the pressure on Zirkzee, who needed to score to keep United in the competition. Leno guessed correctly once again, securing Fulham’s victory.
As a result, Manchester United’s only hope for silverware this season now lies in the Europa League, with upcoming matches against Real Sociedad.
Fulham, on the other hand, will face Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals, with a spot in the semi-finals on the line.
