In a decisive playoff clash for a spot in the Europa League round of 16, AS Roma triumphed over FC Porto, securing their place in the next stage of the tournament.
Despite a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the Italian side delivered a strong performance at home, overcoming their Portuguese opponents with a 3-2 win in the second leg. Paulo Dybala was instrumental in Roma’s success, leading the team to a 4-3 aggregate victory.
The match began with FC Porto’s striker Samuel Omorodion scoring in the 27th minute, putting the visitors ahead. They maintained control until the 35th minute when Dybala sprang into action, scoring twice within five minutes before half-time to put Roma in the lead.
Although Porto’s Stephen Eustaquio was sent off during the match, Roma missed several opportunities to extend their lead. They faced a narrow escape when Omorodion hit the post on a counter-attack.
Roma’s Pisilli scored the team’s third goal in the 83rd minute, seemingly sealing the victory. However, in a dramatic turn of events, Reinsch scored an own goal in the 96th minute, allowing Porto to pull closer with their second goal. The match concluded with a 3-2 scoreline in favor of Roma, advancing them with a 4-3 aggregate after the previous 1-1 draw.
