Liverpool extended their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League after a tense 2-1 win against Wolves on Sunday, thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
The Reds quickly took control as Diaz connected with Salah’s deflected cross and managed to score with his stomach, opening the scores at Anfield.
The Colombian earned a penalty as he was fouled by goalkeeper Jose Sa inside the penalty area, and Salah converted the penalty and extended the lead to two goals before half-time.
At that moment, it seemed like a straightforward afternoon win for Arne Slot’s team. However, Wolves came out with greater attacking intent after halftime.
Alexis Mac Allister successfully blocked a close-range attempt from Matheus Cunha, goalkeeper Alisson Becker had to stay alert to prevent a shot from Marshall Munetsi.
At the other end, Salah had a goal ruled out for offside while VAR rescinded a penalty that Diogo Jota thought he had won, and eventually Liverpool were made to pay for not putting the game away as Cunha curled a 20-yard effort into the bottom corner.
The hosts struggled to create chances of their own in response, and substitute Jarell Quansah had to produce a superb block to keep Munetsi from scoring a late equaliser.
