Eight individuals and a health facility have been charged in court for allegedly defrauding the Social Health Authority (SHA) of Ksh7 million through falsified medical claims.
In a statement, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) noted that the accused face multiple economic crime charges linked to the fraudulent manipulation of health records and the unlawful acquisition of public funds.
Those charged include Markdhillion Mutsotso, an employee of St. Mark Orthodox Health Centre Limited; Sammy Otieno and Patrick Kanya, Directors at Jambo Jipya Medical Clinic; and Faith Chepkurui, the clinic’s Co-Director.

Others are Steven Okinyi and Justine Baraka, both clinical officers; Pauline Wanjiru, a nurse; and Naida Mbeyu, a receptionist at Jambo Jipya Medical Clinic.
The clinic, Jambo Jipya Medical Clinic, was also named as a co-accused in the case.
According to the ODPP, the charges include conspiracy to commit a felony, falsifying medical records, forgery, cheating, and unlawful acquisition and use of proceeds of crime.
Kanya, Chepkurui, Okinyi, Baraka, Wanjiru, Mbeyu, and Jambo Jipya Medical Clinic are accused of conspiring to falsify medical information, leading to the irregular payment of Ksh2,032,680 by the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Separately, Markdhillion Mutsotso is charged with conspiring to defraud the SHA of Ksh5,128,400 between October 2024 and June 2025 at St. Mark Orthodox Health Centre Limited in Chavakali, Vihiga County.
All the accused pleaded not guilty and were released on a Ksh600,000 bond each, pending further mention of the case.
Meanwhile, on Friday, October 3, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that several other suspects linked to SHA fraud are already in custody, adding that more arrests are expected in the coming days.
