5 New Police Stations Launched to Enhance Policing Services

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has established five new police stations across the country in a move aimed at strengthening security and enhancing service delivery.

In a gazette notice dated March 27, Kanja designated Gataka Police Station in Kajiado North, Otonglo Police Station in Kisumu West, and Mabera Police Station in Kuria West as full-fledged police stations.

Also gazetted were Lagbogol Police Station in Wajir East and Thuura Police Station in Imenti East.

The designation was made under Section 40(1) of the National Police Service Act, which empowers the Inspector General to formally recognise police establishments as stations.

The development comes months after Kanja first announced the establishment of the five police stations and related police posts as part of efforts to improve access to policing services.

On January 23, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja announced new police station designations under Section 40(1) of the National Police Service Act, including Kamuguga Police Station in Kiambu County.

In June 2026, he also gazetted three stations in Nairobi and Turkana counties: Utalii Police Station in Ruaraka, and Oropoi Police Station and Loreng Police Post in Turkana West.

Police stations serve as administrative hubs, handling crime reporting, victim support, and operations.

Each is led by an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and is equipped with holding cells, an armory, and operational vehicles.
