Four suspects have been arrested in Kitui Town over the alleged vandalism of electricity transformers in different parts of the county.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during a joint operation involving Kenya Power security officers and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Kitui.
The suspects were identified as Douglas Kyalo Mbuvi, Joseph Mulei Musovo, Benson Muchiri Kaburia and Peter Musyimi Keli.

According to Kenya Power, the four were travelling in a vehicle with concealed number plates when security officers ordered them to stop.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a drum containing copper winding, alongside several tools suspected to have been used in the vandalism.
The items recovered included assorted spanners, a hacksaw, a panga and a hammer.
The suspects later led the security team to Kamuungu Primary School, where a 35KVA transformer had allegedly been vandalised.
They also took officers to Kangweni village, where two other transformers with capacities of 200KVA and 100KVA had allegedly been vandalised.
The four suspects were subsequently booked at Kitui Police Station, where they remained in custody as investigations continued.
The vehicle they were travelling in was also detained at the police station yard.
Kenya Power has continued to raise concerns over the vandalism and theft of components from electricity infrastructure, which can disrupt power supply and expose members of the public to danger.
The latest arrests are part of ongoing efforts by Kenya Power and security agencies to curb vandalism of electricity infrastructure across the country.
