Three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers have been confirmed dead after an improvised explosive device (IED) attack while on patrol in Lamu County.
In a statement released on Tuesday, July 15, the KDF noted that the tragic incident occurred along the Sankuri-Kiunga Main Supply Route (MSR).
“Early this afternoon, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops on patrol along the Sankuri-Kiunga Main Supply Route (MSR) encountered an improvised explosive device (IED). Regrettably, three gallant soldiers succumbed to their injuries. These soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the citizens of Kenya. The entire KDF fraternity condoles with their families,” the statement read.

The forces moreover disclosed that a security operation was immediately launched to track down those responsible for the attack.
According to the KDF, soldiers injured in the explosion were evacuated for medical treatment and are reportedly stable.
Despite the loss, the KDF emphasized that it remains firm in its mission.
This comes a month after two Kenya Air Force officers tragically lost their lives after their aircraft crashed in the Ndavaya area of Kinango, Kwale County.
According to a statement released by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the fatal accident occurred during a routine training mission.
