A traffic jam was witnessed along the Nakuru–Eldoret highway on Thursday after a road accident involving a matatu and a trailer at Ngata area, in Nakuru County.
The accident is said to have occurred after the trailer rammed into the matatu, killing a woman and her child on the spot.
Several other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Following the incident, police and members of the public worked together to retrieve the bodies that were trapped in the mangled wreckage.
The deceased were later moved to the Nakuru City Mortuary as police began efforts to tow the damaged vehicles from the highway.
The crash caused heavy traffic congestion, forcing authorities to redirect vehicles through the Njoro interchange to ease the snarl-up.
