2 Arrested as DCI Recovers Gun Stolen from Police Officer

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects and recovered a firearm that had been stolen from a police officer.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 17, the DCI said the suspects, identified as Cyrus Mureithi Mburu and Peter Kangethe, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

The operation, carried out by officers from DCI Kajiado North in collaboration with Ngong Police Station, targeted the Kware and Mandazi Road areas within Rongai town.

During a search at Mburu’s residence, detectives recovered a magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition, as well as a half-litre of gun oil.

DCI detectives also recovered a Ceska pistol that had been stolen from an officer attached to the Security of Government Buildings (SGB).

Additional items recovered include two imitation firearms, a pair of handcuffs, keys, and a Maasai sword, all of which have been secured as exhibits.

The two suspects remain in custody at Ngong Police Station pending arraignment as investigations continue.

The development comes a week after detectives in Migori County arrested two suspects and recovered a homemade firearm during a separate operation.

Officers raided the residence of a 51-year-old suspect, James Mukwabe Soko, in Makerero Village following intelligence reports.

During the search, detectives recovered a homemade firearm hidden under a sofa set, along with a round of ammunition wrapped in aluminium foil.

They also seized a twisted metal rod, a blue balaclava mask, a dotted dera dress, a black marvin, and a black jacket believed to have been used to conceal the weapon.

The suspect later guided officers to his accomplice’s residence, leading to the arrest of Daniel Muronge Rioba.
