Gospel music artist turned politician Paul Waiganjo has announced his exit from the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), citing alleged unfairness during the party nominations.
Waiganjo made the announcement on Friday, May 29, while attending a function in Nyandarua alongside Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, where he outlined his new political direction.
He said he decided to cut ties with the Rigathi Gachagua-led party after claiming that the May 9 primaries were marred by favouritism.

Waiganjo added that he would not continue associating with the party, noting that his political supporters would guide his next steps and possible affiliation.
He also hinted at joining the Kenya Kwanza faction, urging residents of Ol Kalou to maintain peace and elect leaders focused on development.
At the same event, CS Rebecca Miano welcomed Waiganjo to Kenya Kwanza, describing the coalition as united and committed to delivering leadership ahead of the upcoming by-election and future polls.
Waiganjo had lost the DCP nomination to Sammy Ngotho, who emerged winner with 12,957 votes, while Waiganjo came in second with 4,978 votes.
The party later congratulated Ngotho following the primaries as attention shifted to the upcoming parliamentary race.
Ngotho previously contested the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket in the 2022 General Election, where he finished second. He was later appointed as a protocol officer in the office of then Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
He will now face UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who secured his party’s nomination with 3,221 votes, narrowly defeating George Wambugu Kanuri.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, who passed away on March 29 while receiving treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has scheduled the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election for July 16.
